Letter in support of the Many Hands Sustainability Center
July 17th, 2008
This letter is in reference to the life changing opportunity Manny Hands Organic Farm has offered me. I first came to the farm as a volunteer through the Almost Home Program. Although the farm life was not new to me, I have learned so many other things that do not have to do with farming at all; such as appreciation, respect, value, commitment and responsibility.
When I started going to the farm, I was very quiet and kept to my self most of the time, but I always did what was expected of me. Once I got to know everybody I started opening up and the friendship between the staff at MHOF and me grew stronger. As a volunteer I performed many tasks around the farm. I also learn how to work the land in an organic way and how to operate the farm equipment.
In June while volunteering Julie and Jack recognized my hard work and commitment for the farm and decided to offer me a job. This great opportunity they provided me has given me the ability to integrate back into society as a responsible citizen. It has also allowed me to provide financial support to my family and give back to society as well.
Everyone in life deserves a second chance and thanks to the Manny Hands Organic Farm, I have my second chance. I want to take this opportunity to thank Julie and Jack for their support, comprehension, love and respect they have given me. I feel I have a new family...
Very truly yours,
José D. Santos
